The value of exchanges between Japan and Saudi Arabia has reportedly increased to $8.1 billion (29 billion Saudi riyals) during the first half of 2001, according to Al-Watan daily.
A $5.1 billion (SR15.3 billion) trade surplus in favor of Saudi Arabia existed during the same period. The Kingdom exported $6.6 billion worth (SR 19 billion) of merchandise to Japan, while Japanese imports equaled $1.5 billion (SR 4 billion).
Of these Saudi exports to Japan, 78 percent consisted of petroleum products, while 46 percent of Saudi imports from Japan consisted of automobile and spare car parts. — (Mena Report)
