Joining the e-government initiative of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Government of Sharjah has signed a contract this week with PRO TECHnology, under which it will convert all its data and documents into a digital format, compatible to the nation wide network.

The data transfer project is expected to be completed by September 2002, confirmed a press release. The Dubai-based PRO TECHnology LLC is a solution provider, catering to the Middle East and North African markets through its regional reseller network.

The first such venture in the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) e-government initiative is aimed at breaking down barriers both within and without government departments by providing a one-stop shop for all public services by means of a few clicks of a mouse.

Services provided by the Sharjah Municipality include urban development: construction of public facilities, roads and parks, as well as providing public health services and issues of trading, professional and industrial licenses. — (menareport.com)
