Sharjah authorities have reported a steady stream of visitors, primarily from neighboring Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, with hotels and furnished apartments registering 100 percent occupancy.
Sharjah's new airline Al-Arabia too has all GCC routes fully booked. Three new five-star hotels are to be built in the near future, to cater to the growing demand, according to a press release.
Chairman of Sharjah Economic Development Sheikh Tariq Bin Faisal Al-Qassimi says, “This acceleration in the performance of the tourism sector is the result of a carefully planned and well-executed plan to promote Sharjah as a tourist destination. The emirate offers Arab families an atmosphere that is conducive to their traditions and religious beliefs.”
The successful Spring Promotion which included the participation of many of the large shopping malls such as Mega Mall, Sahara Centre and Tawuun Mall, generated a significant increase in sales, making the promotion a vital part of the emirate's economy. — (menareport.com)
