Shell’s chemical companies are demonstrating their commitment to Middle Eastern foam manufacturers with the construction of two new polyol blending facilities in Dubai and Aqaba in Jordan.

The new units complement distributor facilities in Lebanon and Egypt and will enable Shell to offer customers security of supply for polyols across the region. Demand for polyols, which are used to produce foam for bedding and furniture, is growing as economies develop in the Middle East.

In Dubai, the new polyol blending facilities are part of a $1.1 million expansion of the Shell Chemicals Terminal in Jebel Ali that also includes new storage units, piping, loading arms and improved port facilities.

“The manufacturing unit has been installed using technology which has been adopted from Shell Nederland Chimie BV’s plant in Pernis, the Netherlands”, said Commercial Operations Manager for the Middle East/Pakistan, Ghassan Ashqar.

Shell Trading Middle East has established a similar blending unit in the Red Sea port of Aqaba in Jordan. This unit will supply not only the Levant countries of the Middle East, but also selected Red Sea port destinations and East African countries. — (menareport.com)
