The SlovakoPharma Company recently signed a contract with the Libyan National Pharmaceutical and Medical Supplies Company to operate the Maya pharmaceutical manufacturing factory in Libya.
The overall value of this contract stands at 16 million Libyan dinars ($28.4 million), according to the UAE based Al-Bayan daily.
Fifty percent of the Libyan employees currently working at Maya will be re-trained to work under the new management. The factory is considered the largest pharmaceuticals manufacturing plant in the Arab world.
Cooperation between Libyan and Slovakian health communities is not new. Due to difficult economic conditions, many Slovakian doctors have sought employment in Libya in the past, where salaries were reasonably higher than in their own country. The Slovakian Doctors’ Union supported such arrangements.
In February of last year, an official economic, scientific and technical cooperation agreement was signed between the two countries further establishing bilateral relations. ― (MENA Report)
