The total value of exports in southern Lebanon, officially approved by the Sayda Chamber of Commerce, reached 16.050 Lebanese pounds in the first quarter of 2001, reported Assafir newspaper.

This figure reflects a boost of 89 percent compared with the corresponding period of the previous year. The rise in exports was attributed to the return of occupied lands in Southern Lebanon by Israel.

The value of Lebanese-origin exports rose from 87.43 percent to 92.31 percent during the same period, whereas non-Lebanese origin exports decreased from 12.57 percent to 7.69 percent. — (Albawaba-MEBG)
