Dubai-based Space Imaging Middle East (SIME) has launched its European subsidiary, European Space Imaging (EUSI). EUSI operates a ground station in Oberpfaffenhofen, just west of Munich, Germany. The ground station will task and receive IKONOS high-resolution imagery for Europe and North Africa.

EUSI cone complements Space Imaging Middle East’s coverage area. “We will have ownership of imagery spanning from the Arabian Sea to the Atlantic Ocean and from the Arctic Circle to the Saharan Desert in Africa,” said Managing Director of Space Imaging Middle East, Mohammed El Kadi.

To establish EUSI, Space Imaging Middle East has teamed up with DLR, the German Aerospace Center, to operate the ground station, and GAF AG of Munich, to provide specialized remote-sensing studies and research. Additionally, DLR is the prime technology partner in the development of hosting and electronic delivery of satellite imagery.

The new company is set to capture a sizable portion of the European imagery market; the second largest market in remote sensing worldwide. EUSI will be introducing the single channel concept to Europe.

EUSI's products include a wide and growing range of custom and off-the-shelf geographic-based information products and services. The imagery offered is used in cartography, agriculture and forestry, urban planning, disaster management, infrastructure management, environmental monitoring, transportation and a variety of other markets. — (menareport.com)
