A Spinney’s supermarket outlet in Lebanon was a target for violence on Tuesday when a bomb exploded inside the store, shattering glass and destroying produce. A second bomb was found planted inside the market but was defused, reported security officials.

Located in the northern city of Tripoli, the store was attacked on the first day of the Eid Al-Adha Islamic holiday. Lebanese government officials believe that the blast was part of a public campaign to drive away Western establishments.

The blast follows a series of attacks on fast food restaurants in Lebanon last year, where anti-US sentiments are on the rise. A McDonald’s restaurant in Jouineh and a Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise in of Tripoli have been targets for bombings over the past 10 months.

Last month, leader of Lebanon’s Shiite Muslim Hizbullah movement Hassan Nasrallah urged Arabs to boycott the United States, economically and politically. He warned that the US would face defeat if it assaulted the Arab world by attacking Iraq — (menareport.com)
