STM Wireless Inc. announced that its local agent has signed a contract valued at $600,000 with Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (Etisalat), for the supply of a broadband VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminals) network to be used for offering high-speed connectivity to customers in the Middle East, Asia and Africa.
The contract by Etisalat follows the inauguration of a mesh DAMA (Demand Assignment Multiple Access) platform ordered last year and put into operational service in February 2002. The broadband platform currently being installed by STM is the first of its kind in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and will complement the mesh platform, offering voice and data connectivity to closed user groups and private network customers.
The new broadband VSAT Hub will be interconnected to Etisalat's high-speed fiber backbone for IP access. Etisalat is the UAE national and sole telecommunications service provider. Etisalat is a major shareholder in the Thuraya Satellite Company and the service provider of its geo-mobile satellite phone services in the UAE.
STM Wireless, Inc., headquartered in Irvine, California, is a VSAT network system provider for IP-based networking, telephony and bandwidth on demand data applications. STM has a local and regional sales presence in France, Thailand, Indonesia, China, India and South America, which support a number of in-country sales representatives throughout the world. — (menareport.com)
