Sudan’s Q4 trade surplus at $85 million

Recently published official statistics reveal that the Sudanese foreign trade balance reflected an $84.71 million surplus at the end of the Q4 2000, down from the $130.94 million surplus at Q3-end that same year. In the fourth quarter of 1999, the Sudanese trade balance recorded a $25.9 million surplus, according to Al-Rayaam daily.  


Statistics also indicate that the current Sudanese account balance reflected a $166.28 million deficit at the end of Q4 2000, compared with a $134.57 million deficit at Q3-end 2000, and a $17.6 million deficit in the last quarter of 1999.  


The Sudanese Central Bank recently disclosed that the value of credit granted by Qatari commercial banks during the fourth quarter of 2000 reached 17.188 million Sudanese dinars ($66,800). This figure reflects a 27 percent credit increase compared with the previous quarter. The value of this credit fell by 5.1 percent in the Q4 1999 compared Q3 that year. ― (MENA Report)
