Sudan's state-owned National Petroleum Company (NPC) plans to lay pipelines to supply Eritrea and Ethiopia with petroleum derivatives from the Khartoum refinery, the state news agency SUNA reported Monday.
NPC General Manager Mohamed Abdul Hamid Abdul Samad was quoted by the agency as saying an NPC delegation would travel to Asmara and Addis Ababa to explore the prospects of dealing with the two countries in the sphere of petroleum.
The pipeline would pass through Sudan's Gezira, Sennar and Gedaref states, which will also benefit from it, Samad said.
Khartoum refinery, which was recently built in a joint venture with China, is at Gaily town, about 50 km north of the capital.
Samad said his company would also study the feasibility of running another pipeline to export crude oil from Adaryel oil fields in Upper Nile, south Sudan, to Ethiopia.
The refinery, which was officially opened last June, produces benzine and butane gas for domestic consumption and export, as well as gasoline for local consumption.
The Sudan began last October to export crude through a 1,610-km pipeline from Higlieg fields in southwest Sudan to Beshair terminal on the Red Sea.—AFP
