Syria ordered three civilian radar systems last month, valuing a total of $29 million from the Anglo-Italian company AleniaMarconi Systems, the state news agency SANA said. The radar systems will be installed within 18 months at the airports in the capital Damascus, the northern city of Aleppo and the Mediterranean coastal town of Latakia, the agency said.
"This contract is important for Syrian and international air traffic and will have a positive impact on the economic yield of Syrian aviation,” said Hussein Mahfud, general director of Syria's civil aviation department. Mahfud signed the contract with representatives of AleniaMarconi. — (AFP, Damascus)
