The Syrian government is planning to cancel or at least modify its economic sanctions law in the near future, according to the Al-Hayat newspaper. The issue was raised by the Economic Reforms Committee, which cited that under the law workers could avoid certain financial responsibilities by passing them on to upper or lower level employees.
The committee claimed that, in practice, the law failed to put an end to fraudulent activities, one of its chief intended purposes. Sources stated that the significant number of fraud lawsuits presented to Syrian courts is the best evidence supporting the Committee’s findings. ― (MENA Report)
