Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad approved a new law on Saturday, December 8, regarding the national program to fight unemployment. A new public office will be set up and will operate for a predetermined period of five years.

The new firm will head several manufacturing and service projects that aim to create job openings for Syrian citizens. The program will be funded mainly by the government. A total of 20 percent of revenues from these new projects will be granted in the form of non-refundable aids, reported Al-Hayat .

While officials estimate the rate of unemployment in Syria at 9.5 percent, economists estimate this ratio as high as 30 percent. — (menareport.com)
