The Syrian private industrial sector has recorded a 130 percent growth over the period between 1995 and 2000, in terms of the number of operating industrial enterprises, according to Al-Thawra daily.
The figure rose from 33,636 enterprises operating throughout Syria in 1995 to 43,916 in the year 2000.
The total capital invested in these enterprises grew from 8.33 billion Syrian pounds ($168 million) to SP 51.61 billion (one billion dollars) over the five-year period. The labor force employed by the private industrial sector also expanded ― from 122,286 employees in 1995 to 169,796 in 2000. ― (MENA Report)
