Finnish telecoms operator TeliaSonera is considering the possibility of divesting its 37.1 percent stake in Turkey’s leading mobile operator Turkcell Iletisim Hizmetlerias part of the management’s plan to focus on Nordic, Baltic and Russian operations.

The TeliaSonera Group started to operate on January 1, 2003. In practice, the merger of Sonera and Telia started to materialize in November 2002, as Sonera’s shareholders approved Telia’s exchange offer.

The merger has created a new Nordic communications operator, which provides communications services for consumer and business customers in a customer-oriented manner. Sonera continues to operate in Finland under the name Sonera. — (menareport.com)
