ALBAWABA - In response to concerns about door locks potentially opening during collisions, Tesla, the American electric car manufacturer, has recalled 120,423 vehicles in the United States.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) revealed that Tesla has implemented a software update named "over-the-air" (OTA) to address the issue without requiring physical cables.

The recall specifically targets Tesla's Model S and Model X vehicles manufactured between 2021 and 2023. This move comes shortly after Tesla's recent recall of 2.03 million vehicles to resolve control issues within the Autopilot advanced driver-assistance system. The company is actively working to enhance vehicle safety and swiftly address any identified concerns.

This move comes on the heels of a recent recall affecting over 2 million vehicles across Tesla's model range. The recall addresses a flawed system meant to ensure driver attentiveness while using Autopilot, following a thorough two-year investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) into accidents occurring during Autopilot use.

To keep Tesla drivers informed, the automaker plans to dispatch mail notifications on February 17, 2024. Individuals seeking further details or assistance can reach out to Tesla customer service at (877) 798-3752 or contact NHTSA at (888) 327-4236. Additional information is also available on the agency's website.

The software update specifically targets the Tesla Autosteer function, a key component of the Autopilot system responsible for keeping vehicles on course on freeways. The update introduces alerts to enhance driver awareness and attentiveness when Autopilot is in use. Importantly, it restricts the use of Autosteer based on environmental conditions, with notifications informing drivers when Autosteer is disengaged, as outlined in the recall documents. Tesla aims to ensure safer and more reliable autonomous driving experiences for its users.
