ALBAWABA - In light of a software bug that causes the rearview camera display to be delayed, Tesla has decided to recall around 27,000 Cybertrucks as the software error could potentially increase the likelihood of accidents occurring.

The recall, affecting vehicles manufactured between November 13, 2023, and September 14, 2024, is the fifth for the Cybertruck since customer deliveries began in November, according to The Verge.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the flaw might cause the screen to remain blank for up to eight seconds when the vehicle is placed into reverse. This is far longer than the two seconds that are required by the federal government for safety reasons.

When drivers attempt to reverse their vehicle before the vehicle's systems have completely started up, the video feed may not appear immediately. This problem is encountered by Cybertrucks that are running software versions 2024.32.5.2 or later.

Despite the fact that there have been no reports of injuries or accidents as a result of this delay, it brings to light a serious worry given the already diminished backside visibility in large trucks and SUVs, which poses a potential risk to pedestrians, the Verge notes.

The problem is being addressed by Tesla via the implementation of an over-the-air (OTA) software upgrade, which is being made available at no cost. It is anticipated that the update would resolve the issue in a timely manner, hence removing the need for a physical recall.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that drivers can nevertheless reverse using shoulder checks and mirrors, but notes that the camera is an essential safety component.

This recall comes after others that have been issued for the Cybertruck, such as those in connection with a malfunctioning windshield wipers, loose trim, and jammed accelerator pedals, according to CNN.

Tesla has seen a rise in sales despite these obstacles, as shown by the fact that the company delivered approximately 463,000 automobiles throughout the globe in the third quarter of 2024. This represents a 6% increase from the same time before.
