Express freight provider TNT has introduced a multi-million-dollar “Big Rig” road network out of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which is rolling across the entire Gulf.

The TNT trucking network already covers the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain plus Doha, Qatar, which joined this week. Kuwait is expected to be included before the end of this month and Muscat, Oman soon after that.

The big-rig line-haul network was introduced due to the positive response to Economy Express, TNT's service for larger consignments which are less time sensitive.

According to National Operations Manager Steve Barrett the weight of Economy Express consignments in the Gulf increased 58 percent in the fourth quarter of 2003 compared to the same period in 2002. Over the same period a 44 percent increase in Economy Express consignments was recorded.

A large proportion of our Economy Express shipments come out of the Jebel Ali Freezone, with the products originating from Europe, Asia and the Americas. The company has opened new depots in Bahrain and Kuwait to facilitate this increase in volumes. — (menareport.com)
