The Tunisian government, reported Al-Hayat newspaper, is planning to sell an additional 20 percent of its shares in the Tunisian Airlines Corporation through the local bourse. A similar percentage of the government’s shares in the national air-carrier was sold through the local bourse in 1994.
Sources at the Tunisian Ministry of Economic Development reported that the government intends to sell 40 public enterprises to local and foreign investors through the local privatization program.
Last month, the Tunisian President Zein Al-Abdein Bin Ali urged the government to publicize the names of the public companies to be privatized as well as the privatization timetables.
Until now, the Tunisian treasury has already generated TD1.34 billion ($900 million) from the privatization plan. –(Albawaba-MEBG)
