The government of Tunisia is tendering to buy approximately 50,000 tons of soft bread-making wheat, reported the state-run Office des Cereales. The deadline for the tender is set for today.
Shipment dates are assigned to fall between June 25 and August 15 if the origin of the product is Turkey or Eastern Europe. The dates will be scheduled for June 20 to August 10 if Tunisia imports wheat from Western Europe or between June 15 and August 5 if the North African state imports from Canada.
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Tunisia is expected to produce a low output of wheat and barely during harvest season this June due to continuing below-normal rainfall levels. Wheat imports in marketing year 2002/2003, which spans from July to June are expected to reach close to 1.2 million tons. — (menareport.com)
