Exports from Tunisia increased by 23.1 percent during the first quarter of 2001 and imports by 28 percent, compared with the trade volume for the same period last year, reported the Tunisian national statistics institute.
According to the institute, the growth of exports was the result of a 29.1 percent rise in overseas sales for the textile and clothing sectors, a 43.1 percent rise in the export of shoes and other leather products, a 50.8 percent increase in exports of the mechanical and electronic sectors, and a 9.7 percent rise in the exports of phosphates and phosphate by-products. — (Albawaba-MEBG)
