The Turkish stock market plunged 4.5 percent on Friday, September 21, amid global worries that a US strike on Afghanistan could be imminent. The national index of the Istanbul stock exchange lost 345.4 points, or 4.5 percent, to close at 7,306 points.

The index has fluctuated sharply since the September 11 terrorist attacks in the United States on fears that global economic woes could add to the already volatile environment in the Turkish markets, which have been battling a severe financial crisis since February. — (AFP, Istanbul)
