The World Gold Council reported that the demand for gold in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) increased to more than 100 tons in 2001, up from 94 tons in the previous year of 2000, reported Al-Hayat . These figures translate into a seven percent rise. The council attributed the rise in the demand for gold to arriving tourists into the Emirates, which has become a favorable regional tourist destination. — (menareport.com)
