The UAE’s Ministry of Economy's move to curb price manipulation and allow unrestricted imports of main food products is being regarded as a means to control inflation. It is also a step in the right direction to make the country a free market, in adherence to the WTO policies.

The deregistration is set to have a positive impact on consumer protection by increasing competition among importers in the local market as well as reducing and liberalizing food prices, said Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Saleh, Undersecretary at the Ministry.
