The United Arab Emirates has decided to buy 40,000 tons of wheat from Australia and 25,000 tons from India for shipment in December, a General Industry Corporation (GIC) official said on Wednesday, November 28. No prices were given after the Australian Wheat Board and New Delhi beat off bids from Canada, Pakistan and the United States.

"We are satisfied with the deal," said Ahmad Al-Hosani, general manager of Emirates Flour and Animal Feed, a subsidiary of GIC, the industrial development arm of the Abu Dhabi government. Abu Dhabi imports some 220,000 tons of wheat annually. — (AFP, Abu Dhabi)
