The UAE government issued a consumer protection law, Federal Law No 6 of 2006, that was signed by the President on August 13. The law will be effective in three months.
The new law is to grant full rights to consumers to exchange or return their purchases in addition to a list of other rights including penalties for faulty goods and suppliers' liabilities. In addition, stipulations of the law call for the government’s establishment of a consumer protection committee to monitor prices and returns and other issues related to consumer goods.
