Work by Toshiba's United Arab Emirates (UAE) distributor has led to the company adopting a worldwide three-year warranty policy for its mobile computers, the only brand to carry such a guarantee.

Dubai-headquartered Al-Futtaim Electronics first began offering a three-year warranty on Toshiba laptops in 1997, when the manufacturer’s own warranty was for 12 months. The benefit became such a big sales generator in the UAE that Toshiba's European computer systems division in Germany – which is responsible for the Middle East and Africa markets – adopted the policy for its entire regional operations.

Now, three-year warranties are the international standard for all Toshiba mobile computers. For Al-Futtaim, the extended warranty capitalized on the very low failure rate experienced with Toshiba models sold by the distributor.

The Computer Systems Division of Toshiba Europe GmbH is a world-leading vendor for mobile computing solutions. In addition to notebooks, the company offers desktops and servers in Europe, Middle East and Africa under the Toshiba brand name. Headquartered in Neuss, Germany, the Computer Systems Division of Toshiba Europe GmbH is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Toshiba Corporation, the world's eighth-largest computer and electronics company. — (menareport.com)
