UAE Minister for Economy Shaikha Lubna Al Qassimi has revealed that
commodity exports reached AED 425 bn or USD 115 bn in 2005, with
crude oil exports accounting for one third of the total value. "The
income from tourism was about USD 9 bn in 2005, thus making the UAE
among the top earners in the MENA region", said Shaikha Lubna Al
Qassimi. The UAE has been successful in reducing its dependence on oil- 30% of the nation’s income originates from oil- by diversifying its sources of income
and creating a attractive business location and a hub for international
investments.
