Etisalat Joins Zain, STC in the Race for Oman’s Third Mobile License

Another regional telecom operator, Etisalat Group, has made a bid for the third mobile operator’s licence in Oman.

On Tuesday, Saudi Telecom Company (STC) and Kuwait’s Mobile Telecommunications Company (Zain), had announced about their bids for the third licence.

Etisalat announced on Wednesday through its disclosure to the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) on its Oman bid.

“We would like to inform you that Etisalat Group submitted a bid for the third mobile licence in the Sultanate of Oman. This bid is in line with Etisalat Group’s expansion strategy considering the market potential and similarities, footprint proximity to our core market, and likely synergies,” the company said.

As per the Information Memorandum (IM) published by the Omani Telecom Regulatory Authority (TRA) for the third licence, the qualified bidders will be announced on August 14, 2017.

“Should there be any developments on this subject, we will keep stock market updated in due course,” Etisalat stated.

TRA in a statement said that it has received offers from a number of companies interested in bidding for the third licence. “The authority is currently studying and evaluating these offers in accordance with the procedures set forth in IM.”
