Unity Wireless Corporation, a provider of power amplifiers to the wireless industry, has partnered with an Israeli-based technology firm to receive a 700,000 Canadian dollar repayable grant, split equally between the companies, from the Canada-Israel Industrial R&D Foundation (CIIRDF), toward joint development of a fully integrated digital repeater system.

Ilan Kenig, president and CEO of Unity Wireless Corporation, commented, "We are delighted to have been granted this award after a very long and intense due diligence process. Being awarded the grant, we believe, further validates our technology development roadmap and is truly rewarding."

The project will combine the latest innovations in digital signal filtering from Israel with Unity's next generation of Smart Power Amplifiers that utilize digital pre-distortion technology. Combined, these technologies should produce a compact digital repeater system that will initially target the US third generation (3G) wireless infrastructure market.

"After thoroughly reviewing the application presented by Unity Wireless and their Israeli-based partner, our board has determined that their project has both the technical merit and market relevance which makes this partnership an ideal candidate for the CIIRDF program," stated Henri Rothschild, president of CIIRDF.

"We are also pleased to report that Unity Wireless' joint proposal received the highest evaluation score ever achieved by a CIIRDF applicant in the history of the fund."

CIIRDF, an organization with offices in Canada and Israel receives funds from both governments in order to promote technology and business partnerships between the two countries. Projects must pass a rigorous evaluation to ensure they are technically innovative, and the partner companies must demonstrate they have the depth to complete and deliver the products.

The grant awarded under the CIIRDF program is payable upon the completion of certain milestones over the course of the project's expected development span and repayable by the participating companies as a percentage of sales. — (menareport.com)
