In association with an American consortium, some Egyptian public pharmaceutical manufacturers have recently launched a new joint Egyptian-American plan. According to the UAE-based Al-Bayan daily, the project aims to add Egypt to the list of countries permitted to export pharmaceutical products to the United States and other industrialized nations.
This goal, expected to be accomplished within a 12-months’ period, will enable Egypt to produce pharmaceutical products complying with the American and European specifications and standards.
In the past, efforts to promote American-Egyptian cooperation in this sector took the form of discussions focusing on investments in technology and research. It was hoped that once the liberalization measures are put in place, Egypt would be able to compete in the global pharmaceutical markets. ― (MENA Report)
