The level of trade between the United States and the United Arab Emirates has increased by close to 20 percent during the year 2000, passing the four-billion dollar mark, according toNancy Charles-Parker, the counselor for commercial affairs at the United States’ UAE embassy
Speaking at the second Business and Industry USA Catalogue Exhibition at the Sharjah expo center, Parker said that, despite its small population, the UAE is the second largest Gulf importer of US-made products, after Saudi Arabia.
Addressing the current economic climate, Parker said that she doubted the slowdown in the US economy would negatively affect its flow of trade with the UAE, because of the size of the US economy.
Parker noted that there are more than 500 US firms operating in different parts of the UAE. — (Albawaba-MEBG)
