Israel’s VCON announced that Arlington County, Virginia is using its Media Xchange Manager (MXM) and endpoints for a countywide videoconferencing deployment over an IP network. The pilot program connects distributed members of the public safety community assigned to the Office of Emergency Operations Management during an emergency.

This first use of videoconferencing by the county is part of its eGovernment initiative, which is managed by Arlington County's Department of Technology Services (DTS). Because of the communication and emergency response difficulties identified as a result of September 11, DTS decided to focus the pilot on improving communication between public safety agencies.

County response teams, including the public health, fire and police departments simulated an anthrax outbreak in Arlington County to demonstrate the efficiency and effectiveness of its broadband Institutional Network (INET) and technologies such as videoconferencing over IP during a crisis.

VCON develops and manufactures visual communications solutions that bridge distances between people. VCON's meeting and collaboration solutions include desktop and group videoconferencing products, along with an advanced IP video PBX that operates as a management, administration, and billing tool. The company markets its products and services through a network of reseller partners, OEMs and value-added resellers worldwide. — (menareport.com)
