Venezuela's Chavez:oil price should remain within a band of $22 to $28 per barrel

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez Tuesday told BridgeNews "the OPEC position is that world crude oil prices should remain within a band of $22 to $28 per barrel.  

 

No new cuts in OPEC, oil production schedules are needed in the short term." He reiterated the OPEC position that world crude oil prices should remain within a band of $22 to $28 per barrel, a news story from Brasilia reported. 

 

According to BridgeNews Chavez spoke to BridgeNews following meetings Tuesday with Brazilian President Fernando Henrique Cardoso and other Brazilian officials here. He said, "Given the recent OPEC cuts in production, there is no need to cut n production again now."  

 

He added, "If more cuts are needed sometime in the future (in order to keep to the band), then we will make cuts."
