Venezuela's Petrozuata ships 480,000 bbls of upg crude to Conoco's Lake Charles

Venezuela's Petrozuata extra heavy crude project sent its first shipment of 480,000 bbls of upgraded crude to Conoco's Lake Charles, Louisiana, refinery, Karina Bellorin Petrozuata Public Affairs official said Monday. 

 

The heavy crude is extracted from Venezuela's Orinoco Tar Belt at the Jose on Venezuela's in eastern Venezuela near the coastal city of Puerto La Cruz.  

 

The plant's $1-billion, 120,000 b/d upgraded takes the 9- degree API extra heavy crude to a 22-degree API crude. The plant which was inaugurated last month, is a joint venture between Conoco (50.1 percent) and Venezuelan oil company PDVSA (49.9 percent).
