Volvo Car Overseas recorded 22 percent additional registrations in 2002 compared to 2001 with 1,358 cars being sold in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) markets. Last year's sales increase builds upon the 10 percent increase achieved in 2001 over 2000, stated Regional Director, Graham Carmichael,

Volvo sales in 2002 strengthened significantly in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with Trading Enterprises achieving a 61 percent increase in sales. Bahrain's Volvo distributors, Al-Jazira Motor delivered almost 100 cars after conducting a major review of their operations. Zahid Tractor, the distributor of the brand in Saudi Arabia achieved a more modest growth in sales during 2002, recording just under a 10 percent increase.

For 2003, Volvo Car Overseas expects further growth in the GCC, but is cautious of its prognosis because of the greater uncertainties facing the region. — (menareport.com)
