Commtouch, a developer and provider of anti-spam technology and services, has reported that that the tide of spam related to the war in Iraq is turning from commerce to communication. War protesters and supporters alike are now tapping bulk email to broadcast their opinions.

Since the war started in Iraq, email users everywhere have experienced spam overload. According to Commtouch, there has been an alarming increase in daily spam blasts-up 26 percent between late February and late March 2003. Commtouch attributes this increase to war-related spam; last week alone the company detected 1,682 unique war-related spam blasts in a 48-hour period. Each unique spam blast can reach anywhere from 100,000 to tens of millions of email users.

Commtouch is headquartered in Netanya, Israel and its subsidiary, is based in Mountain View, California. The company was founded in 1991 and has been publicly traded since 1999. — (menareport.com)
