Saudi to hold waste management and recycling summit

A waste-management firm will open tomorrow an international summit on waste management and recycling to support the Kingdom's moves toward a greener and zero-waste environment for a sustainable future.

The Kingdom has been investing and pursing reforms to position itself as one of the world's most competitive economies at the start of the next decade, organizers said, to usher a "green era for our sustainable future" by exploring ways to recycle waste.

Summit organizer Nispana, which is redefining waste as  residues, said it is "conducive to address the issue ... with respect to the minimal utilization of residues of various sectors." 

Hence, it is coming up with the "Waste Management and Recycling Summit 2014 on April 23-24 at the Navotel Hotel in Riyadh which it expects to be attended by eminent local and international professionals in the waste management sector.

The summit will provide relevant companies and organizations the chance to host business meetings with decision makers from the government and private sectors or showcase their latest technology and expertise to prospective investors and project holders.

Organizers said officials from the Dammam Municipality, Jeddah Municipality, World Safety Organization and Saudi Green Building Council are supporting the project. 

Industry leaders including Enviroplan SA, Ricardo-AEA, Arensco, Environmental Testing and Laboratories Company and Hellatron have already confirmed their participation.

Eng. Abd Elrahman Ali Alkahtani, Landfill Section Head of the Jeddah Municipality; Dr. Adam Read, Practice Director for Resource Efficiency & Waste Management of Ricardo-AEA; Dr. Mohammed Alhaj Hussein, Board member of Saudi Green Building Council in Jeddah; Erik de Baedts, Director of NVRD, are among  the industrial experts who will present real-time case studies on waste management.

This summit is a platform for solution providers and others who want to present ways and means on how to reduce the problems on waste which is rising in Saudi Arabia.

This Summit will give insights into the situation and help create opportunities for networking and sharing experiences in waste management for professional development and lifelong learning.
