Heads of state from Senegal, Mali, Benin and Niger under the aegis of the Economic and Monetary Union of West Africa (Uemoa) met earlier this week to discuss the ongoing currency changeover across the eight-member union.
Absent from the day-long meeting were the presidents from Togo, Burkina Faso, Guinea-Bissau and Ivory Coast, though they were represented at the senior level.
On the agenda for the meeting was a review of the status of the West African central bank (BCEAO) and efforts undertaken to reform the banking system for the 92 million residents in the eight-country Uemoa bloc, according to a statement from the grouping. (menareport.com)
