ALBAWABA - With a second possible ban right down the corner, the fate of TikTok in the US remains unclear but some reports recently indicated that X owner and tech billionaire Elon Musk has his eyes on the popular video-sharing platform.
As speculations swarmed social media platforms including Musk's X (formerly known as Twitter) about the tech billionaire's possibility of buying TikTok to prevent a ban in the US, the Chinese-owned company by ByteDance rebuked the report made on Monday as 'pure fiction.'
Moreover, ByteDance repeatedly stated that it won't be selling its US operations, as reported by the BBC.
Will Elon Musk buy TikTok amid US ban threats?
This all comes in after Bloomberg News issued a report claiming that Chinese officials are in talks about selling TikTok to prevent the ban that would take place on January 19 if ByteDance doesn't sell its US operation to someone else.
Joining Elon Musk as one of the possible buyers was controversial YouTuber MrBeast who took to X and wrote, "Okay fine, I’ll buy TikTok so it doesn’t get banned," garnering more than 160,000 likes and millions of views. This proves to be difficult as video sharing platform is worth an estimated minimum of $100 Billion compared to MrBeast's $500 million net worth.
The US Supreme Court will decide the fate of TikTok getting banned in the US by January 19 due to the Chinese company not abiding by US laws which deemed the video-sharing platform a "threat to national security."
