Of 14 million people that currently work in Iran, 1.764 million are women, an Iranian Labor Ministry Official disclosed. The figure constitutes approximately 12 percent of the labor force in the Republic.
The Official commented, "721,000 people enter the employment market annually, out of which women's share is 152,000, indicating that more attention has to be paid on the issue of women employment.''
According to this source, the unemployment rate of women in the nation currently stands at 13.4 percent, and women lack the necessary skills to be competitive in the workplace. They need increased and improved vocational training, the source told IRNA. The majority of the employed women in Iran are in the service sector, followed by the agriculture and industry sectors.
