Works on Bahrain World Trade Centre project goes on despite dhow disaster

Seven senior executives from the Nass, Murray & Roberts team responsible for constructing Bahrain World Trade Centre project died in Thursday night's dhow disaster. Among them were project chairman David Evans, 56, project director William Nolan, 50, and 42-year-old finishes manager Stephen Grady, all British citizens. Commercial manager Chris Braysher, 47, whose nationality was given as British and South African as well as project engineer Lawrence Sulman, 39, design co-ordinator Jimmy Allen, 59, and engineering surveyor Alan Jeppe - all South African - were also confirmed dead.

 

South African Cathy Judd, 25, a partner of one of the senior executives was also a victim of the capsized vessel, the GDN reported.

 

Murray and Roberts group chief executive Brian Bruce has said work on the project had not been suspended and would continue unabated.

 

The company had 25 employees in Bahrain working on the site, 11 of which are from the UK, eight from South Africa, four from India and one each from Bahrain and Pakistan.

 

It has set up a crisis centre in its Johannesburg office supported by branches in London and Dubai.
