Senior World Bank official Johannes Linn arrived in Turkey on Wednesday, April 4, for a 72-hour visit to discuss help for the ailing economy, Anatolia news agency report.

"I hope to discuss World Bank support for the economic program with Economy Minister Kemal Dervis," Linn, the World Bank vice president for Europe and Central Asia, told reporters on his arrival at Istanbul airport.

Talks would also include restructuring of the banking sector, he said.

A serious financial crisis led the government to float the Turkish lira on February 22, disrupting an IMF-backed disinflation program in place since December 1999.
