Yemeni government to impose general tax on sales and services by September

A Yemeni official revealed that the government will impose a general tax system on services and sales, as of the beginning of September 2002, following a recent decision made by the cabinet, reported Al-Hayat. The Undersecretary of the Tax Authority, Naaman Taher Al-Suhaybe, said that the general tax will be imposed on retailers and wholesalers whose annual turnover exceeds 50 million Yemeni Riyals ($297 million). It will be also imposed on service providers, whose annual turnover exceeds YR 40 million. The same official added that all services and merchandise whether locally produced or imported will be subject to a 10 percent general tax.
