The latest moves taken by governments to enhance the security environment, changes in security legislation, updates on local data retention policies, proofing methods in order to forestall future threats and enhanced monitoring of vulnerable areas will be among the topics to be discussed at the Intersec Security Conference. The Conference will be held in January alongside Intersec, the region’s biggest trade event for the health and safety, fire and rescue, security and policing industries.

Major Ali Khalifa Al Ghais, Deputy Manager of the Department of Protective Systems, Dubai Police will be one of the speakers addressing these security challenges in the country. Major Al Ghais is one of a series of government officials and industry experts who will be sharing their insights during the three-day conference.

“The rapidly changing security scenario worldwide has led to governments around the world revisiting and revising security measures and legislation needed to combat security threats,” said Major Al Ghais. “The UAE too has made significant changes to ensure the safety and security of its residents and environment. As threat perceptions change it is important that we keep ahead of the curve and put in place measures to anticipate and thwart any potential danger that may be posed by varied sources,” he added.

There is a marked increase in demand for biometric access and egress control systems, video surveillance systems and perimeter control machinery in countries around the region, which is expected to impact the market for these products quite significantly.

“Governments, homeland security and police are all turning to the latest in technology to stay ahead of increasingly sophisticated criminals,” said Ahmed Pauwels, Chief Executive Officer of Epoc Messe Frankfurt, organiser of Intersec. “The increasing demand for innovative security products is a major driving force in the industry.”

A must-attend annual event, on 16th and 17th January the Intersec Conference ‘Security in a changing economy’ will focus on these challenges and issues faced by the security industry.  18th January will feature the ‘Protecting life and major developments during fire and other emergencies’ Conference which will take a look at the latest fire safety and building fire protection technology.  With the development of an increasing number of high rise towers in the region it is imperative that experts understand the latest fire protection technology.

In the region the Oil and Gas industry is expanding and it is essential that there are plans in place not only to prevent an accident or disaster but a strategy to deal with one should it occur. The Conference also features a three-day workshop on Emergency Planning for the Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Sectors Workshop.  In collaboration with Gulf Coordination Services (GCS), workshop participants will gain first hand knowledge from international experts who plan, prepare, respond to and manage emergencies and crisis within the oil and gas sector everyday.

Intersec 2011 will be held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre from 16 to 18 January, 2011. The event brings together leading manufacturers, suppliers, security and safety experts, representatives from the region’s homeland security, police and fire control bodies and industry professionals. Over the years Intersec has evolved to become the premier networking and trade platform for the industry in the wider region.
