IDF’s Operation Protective Edge soldiers to receive official recognition

On Monday night, 25 officers, non-commissioned officers and soldiers will receive recognition for their actions during Operation Protective Edge last summer. Minister of Defense Moshe Ya'alon and IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Benny Gantz will present the citations. 

Those receiving awards include Lt. Eitan Pund, deputy commander of a reconnaissance company in the Givati Brigade who, on August 1, led four soldiers into a terrorist tunnel in Gaza, after the kidnapping of Lt. Hadar Goldin.

Operation Protective Edge was a 2014 Israeli military initiative in the Gaza Strip of Palestine. In just seven weeks of bombardment by the IDF, over 2,200 people were killed, most of whom were Palestinians living in GazaThe Palestinian government has since filed claims of war crimes against Israel since the military operation.
