At least 94 women and children were kidnapped by Sunni Islamist rebels, according to a video published on Thursday.
Islamist rebels abducted the citizens --all of whom belong to President Bashar al-Assad's Alawite sect-- in rural Latakia, reuters reported.
Rebels are looking to swap those abducted in exchange for 2,000 prisoners who have been held for over a year.
The video, obtained by Al Jazeera, was not able to be independently verifed by Reuters for its authenticity.
Last week the Syrian government freed at least 25 prisoners in exchange for the release of 13 Greek Orthodox nuns who were being held by fighters from the Nusra front.
