The Department of Municipal Affairs organized a workshop on Information Technology

As a part of the Department of Municipal Affairs (DMA)’s endeavour to highlight projects and initiatives in different sectors and divisions, the Strategic Planning & Performance Management Office (SPPM) organized a workshop on the Information Technology 2011 Strategic Initiative.
The Enterprise Data Model was reviewed during the workshop, with a focus on ways to achieve Standardization, re-usability, efficiency and data quality in order to standardize business language in which IT and business can communicate with each other. This will provide a unified design to create a foundation for data integration and logical consistency and provide modeling that enable end-user organizations to visualize and better understand their data and information needs in addition to providing consistent data modeling capabilities, according to Huda Al Awadi, DMA IT Advisor. She added that the initiative would result in speeding the development and deployment of databases and reducing risk in providing service by utilizing proven data modeling best practices and providing the ability to leverage existing data models for new applications and solutions. As far as efficiency is concerned, it increases responsiveness of those responsible for data models in an environment of ever-changing business requirements and increases the performance and scalability of data solutions, according to Al Awadi. “This will lower total cost of ownership,” she added. “If we think about data quality, it provides a single source of truth that facilitates the data reconciliation processes, reduces data inconsistencies and improves the reporting quality across the organization.”
Moreover, the workshop focused on the Property Management System which fulfill strategic government objectives by registering all rental agreements covering the housing rental market and transactional services for free hold properties.
The workshop emphasized the fact that the information technology Strategy at the DMA is a part of the Abu Dhabi Government general strategy in information technology covering all governmental entities in order to meet the requirements of the Abu Dhabi 2030 vision make the Government of Abu Dhabi as one of the best five governments in the world in terms of services offered to the public.
