At least 13 killed in Iraq day after premier Maliki's re-election confirmed

Attacks throughout Iraq Tuesday left at least 13 people dead a day after election results confirmed premier Nour Maliki would continue for a third term in the leadership, according to the Associated Press. 

Police officials told reporters that gunmen ambushed a mini-bus near Suleiman Beg carrying off-duty soldiers. The militants killed eight of the soldiers aboard and wounded four others. 

A car bomb also reportedly exploded in a small town north of Baghdad leaving two dead.

Another bomb was reported in Hillah, south of Baghdad, leaving three more dead and eight others wounded.
